Server Configuration

Please note that the following are recommendations for installing and demonstrating SEP sesam. The software works on practically any platform, Linux, Unix or Microsoft and can be physical or virtual, however installation is preferred on a physical test server. Please make sure any firewalls can be dealt with and in the event of an install on Windows, please make sure the Virus protection is disabled before starting the installation.  

Minimum Hardware Configuration

Processor

• 2+ 64 Bit physical cores

Memory

• 4GB unlimited raw storage
• 8GB unlimited raw storage + dedupe target volume <= 10TB
• Additional memory requirements for larger dedupe volumes

Networking

• Trunked 1GB+ Managed Ethernet, 802.3ad
• Transmit policy highest supported on both sides (Layer2 or Layer3+4)

Storage

• RAID 6 for RAW Storage
• RAID 10 is required for Deduplication
• SAN (FC/iSCSI) or NFS over 1GBt+
• Auto Tape Loader (20/+ slots)
• Non manually loaded tape drive or external USB/SATA disk setup

Recommended Hardware Configuration

Processor

• 20+ 64 Bit physical cores
• All CPU sockets populated in mainboard
• Use higher TDP processor with larger L2 cache size

Memory

• 256GB+
• All Memory channels populated equally in mainboard
• Use the highest frequency dual rank modules supported by mainboard
• * Many modern mainboards support a maximum of about 2/3 full (memory sockets) at full performance
• Additional memory requirements for dedupe volumes > 300GB

Networking

• Trunked 10GB+ Managed Ethernet, 802.3ad
• Transmit policy highest supported on both sides (Layer2 or Layer3+4)

Storage

• RAID 10 Storage
• * Throughput over 10Gbt will often require 2 RAID controllers
• SAN (FC/iSCSI) or NFS over 10 GBt+
• Auto Tape Loader (20/+ slots)
• Non manually loaded tape drive or external USB/SATA disk setup

Required Software Configuration

Operating System

• 64 bit linux 7.0+ or Windows 2012R2+
• Valid and Activated License
• Booted with all current patches
• Network update configured and working

DNS

• Server/RDS: Fully functional forward and reverse DNS
• Clients: Fully functional forward DNS

If you plan to backup any of the below products on OES an additional Novell Client Configuration is recommended on the backup server
